Helen Marie Hoagland, second child on the left side of this photo, was my biological paternal grandmother. She took part in this “Tom Thumb Wedding” in Elgin, Kane County, Illinois.

cute photo of the children of long ago in their mock wedding. what do you think is the approximate date of your photo? and on what street is this house on? it took a lot of preparation on some adults’ part to do this.

Hi, RoseMarie! I would guess the date for the Tom Thumb wedding was about 1913ish. Just by taking Grandmother Helen’s DOB and adding a few years – she looks about six?? I would love for you to share the photos if credit is given to my blog and I would love to know when your book is published so I might purchase it. I do not know anymore about the photo. It was sent to me by my grandmother’s sister just before she died and I have no information other than her telling me my grandmother was the second child on the left. Such a bummer… I had contacted her with questions and never heard back from her. There is no one in the family other than me that is available to share the history. A census I have shows the family living on West Champs in 1910, but, this photo could have been somewhere else. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions. I do have more about this family that is not yet posted on my blog. I have a family tree on Ancestry.com – Wings of Angels that started with this family. Thanks so much for contacting me!

Capt. John Rankin Harkness 1830–1903 / Biloxi Pioneer / Architect and builder of many homes, the school and businesses in Biloxi. Harkness was street commissioner on the Biloxi City Council and was a member of the school board as evidenced in The Biloxi Herald newspaper at the time.
